Russia, the United Kingdom and other countries began to try to use titanium alloy propellers on ships as early as the 1960s. For example, Russia has used titanium propellers in its "Alpha" class and "Mike" class nuclear submarines. The United States has also used titanium propellers on several ships. For example, the U.S. Navy's 50T-class research hunting submarine uses an 812.8mm diameter, three-bladed, detachable, supercavitation titanium propeller. The "Ashewell" high-speed gunboat uses a four-blade variable pitch titanium propeller. Planview, a large American military hydrofoil, uses a 1.52m diameter, four-bladed, detachable, supercavitation titanium propeller made of Ti-6Al-4V. China has also successfully developed a variety of titanium alloy propellers, and successfully used in a number of ships. For example, TI-5AL-2.5 SN and Ti-6Al-4V titanium hydrofoil propellers were successfully developed in 1972 and have been used on several ships so far. The results of many years of use show that the corrosion resistance of titanium alloy propeller is strong, and its service life is 3 times as much as that of traditional copper alloy propeller.

In addition to the propeller of the ship, titanium alloy material is also used in the engine of the ship. For example, the Russian-made atomic powered icebreaker uses a steam engine containing titanium alloy materials. The use of titanium alloy power propulsion device can make the ship sailing without being affected by the large induced current caused by cutting the earth's magnetic field lines. In addition, titanium alloy materials are also used in the water-jet propulsion devices of some ships, such as the United States SES-100A test boat and Japan's "PT-10" torpedo boat. Their water jet propulsion unit uses industrial pure titanium and titanium alloy forgings, reducing the mass of the unit and improving the efficiency of the water jet propulsion unit.
